Mobile Marketing Fundamentals

The Mobile Method
You will approach local offline businesses in the hope of building them a
simple mobile optimized version of their current website. You can create this
mobile website by scratch or by using one of the ‘fill in the blank’ templates I
have included in this course.
Unlike all the other offline marketers out there you will NOT be trying to sell
the same old SEO or Google Places services. Most business owners won’t
have been approached about mobile websites before and you will be doing it
in a way that is very different from all the other hard-sells they are so used to.
There are two main ways you can make this business model work for you:
1) Charge per Mobile Website
You can charge anywhere from $297 - $497 + per mobile website depending
on the business you are targeting. Your price should vary a little depending on
the customer value of the business. Those businesses with higher customer
value will be willing to spend more money to obtain each new customer.
2) Giveaway Mobile Websites & Charge for Hosting
There are several multi-million dollar companies that have been built solely
from using this very same method with regular websites.
The way it works is simple. You give away free mobile websites (often with
the first month of hosting free) and you then charge businesses a fee each
month (anywhere from $19 - $29) to host that website on your server.
This method works very well as it removes any of the risk on the customers’
side and allows them to spread out their payment over time, rather than
having to pay you a set amount upfront.
The great thing about the mobile website templates I’ve included in this
course is you can put these mobile websites together in as little as 30
minutes. So imagine how many mobile websites you could make and give
away each day. When things start going well you can then outsource the work
and scale up your earnings much faster.

Businesses to Approach

To make this business as simple as possible you need to be really smart
about the types of businesses you approach.
The local businesses you should approach are those that fit one main criterion
– they have a high customer value. This means businesses like dentists,
cosmetic surgeons, chiropractors, plumbers, locksmiths, tow trucks, etc where
customers spend large amounts of money per visit.
The other types of business you want to approach are those where customers
have a high consumption value. This means customers may not be
spending much money per visit but they are spending that money on a very
regular basis. This might be businesses like hairdressers, restaurants, a car
wash, bars, coffee shops and mechanics.
You also want to make sure you approach small businesses with around 5
employees or less. This is important as you will need to speak with the
manager or owner who is in charge of making the marketing decisions. With a
larger business this is going to be hard as it will take you some time to get
through all the gate-keepers first (receptionists, middle managers, etc).
I also like to approach those types of businesses that are more likely to be
searched for by someone on a mobile device. So instead of chasing a
local jewellery store I would much rather go after a tow truck company, pizza
shop or locksmith; businesses that people are likely to need when they are
out on the road.
I also try to stay away from those businesses that are likely to need regular
updates made to their mobile website. Most real estate agents fall in this
category and that is why I will not sell to those types of businesses. It’s a
personal preference really.
Some people actually prefer to approach these types of businesses because
you can command a set fee from the customer every time you do an update
of their website.
I look at it this way. I would much rather spend half an hour of my time
creating a mobile website I can sell to a new customer for $297 + than having
to update someone’s current website for a measly $30 - 40.
